Lives In Portland

I am a 2012 Maine College of Art graduate with a BFA in graphic design. I primarily work in the web industry and am a front-end developer. On the weekends I'm a wedding photographer. The creative world has always called to me, and I love to assist in any way that I can - be it design, videography, writing music or blogging. In my spare time I love to hike, run, and bake.

I went to school in Portland because I saw how alive the creative community was. Since graduating I am always drawn back for art walks, freelance opportunities, and helping out in the community.

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? I admire anyone who is putting a helping hand forward to better the city of Portland by creating lovely websites such as this, organizing creative meetups, and, of course, helping out the Maine College of Art students.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Portland has a great night scene - one of the best in Maine. We enjoy live music, art walks, and the wide variety of food and drinks that Portland has to offer.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? I love the Back Bay path. When I was younger my family participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraiser for juvenile diabetes. Ever since my introduction to the area, I've loved to walk the path!

What's the most surprising thing about this city? I'm surprised by how much the city has grown between when I went to MECA in 2008 and now! The art scene has truly become something to talk about.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Definitely El Rayo. They have THE BEST fish tacos I've ever had.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? All of the small local book stores have so many treasures. (Longfellow & Yes Books) I love to browse the shelves and be reminded of books that I have read and loved. I also enjoy going through the local legends books. It's fun to learn what nearby buildings may be haunted.

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. My perfect night in Portland would involve sushi or hibachi with colleagues ending with wii sport competitions in a friend's cozy apartment!

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? I almost ALWAYS run into people I know at Bard Coffee. The amazing coffee and atmosphere must attract some pretty great people!
