Lives In The West End

Meredith Brockington is the Founder of AMIE, pronounced (ah-mee) meaning female friend in French.

Amie launched as an e-commerce-based shop in Sept '17 with a concept to invest and support 'Female, not factory' products.

Amie is empowering women artists by telling her story. We've expanded to spotlight 16 artists and have a gallery shop in Portland where we collaborate with artists to teach workshops and futher cultivate community. Our vision is to continue to share her process, her studio, and tell her story.

Meredith is a photographer and macramé artist. She is inspired by travel, hiking, music, and cooking.

Why did you choose Portland? I'm a Mainer, born and raised in Southern Maine. I left the state to study my undergrad. After graduating, I was hired as an L.L.Bean Photo Art Director. It made sense to plant roots in a city that has it all. Being a creative and entrepreneur in Portland provides endless small business support, mentorship, and growth opportunity.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Take a ferry to the islands, bike Peaks, watch live music at Blue/OLS/State, eat oysters and drink wine.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? The backyard of the historic condo building I rent. It's covered in ivy with impeccable landscaping and an apple tree. The dreamiest place in Portland to host dinner parties with friends.

What's the most surprising thing about this city? The amount of humans struggling with addiction, mental illness, homelessness. There are amazing organizations trying to provide aid.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Quail eggs from Boda.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? Public city workers. There's an older gentleman that works for the city keeping the sidewalks clean. He sweeps up cigarettes and other trash on Congress daily, keeping our city and harbor clean. I think there's a huge lack of appreciation. God bless that man and all the others who do public service.

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Live music at OLS, followed by Pai Men or late night Boda or contra dancing at the UCC church on State Street. Spin class at Reve, then strolling around the farmers market with coffee in hand.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? Everywhere.
