Photographer, plant geek, and cold water convert.

Job Photographer

Lives In West End

Throughout his childhood Mark slept exclusively on waterbeds. In doing so he developed a weak lower back that kept him from playing sports. Destined never to become an athlete, Mark became an avid daydreamer, developing a keen eye for composition while staring out windows most of his school days. Destined never to become an academic, Mark took up photographing as a way to study and explore the world around him. The perfection of nature, as well as the relationship between humans and the landscape are common themes in his work.

Why did you choose Portland? Portland has so much potential... I especially enjoy how easy it is to "get outdoors". Within 15 minutes from downtown you can be in the ocean, the woods, paddling a canoe through a marsh.. its one of the best things about living here.

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? The resourceful, driven people, who love this town. And who go to great lengths to improve it and foster a creative community here.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Eat, eat some more...and in between eating...I really like to take people to different areas of the coastline...Casco bay ferry to one of the islands, walking at Higgins Beach to show off a real life ship wreck, Harpswell, the list goes on.

What's the most surprising thing about this city? Just how different the East and West ends are...and how they have such unique personalities...It's really like having two separate towns attached to each other.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? Taco Trio which is actually in South Portland. I grew up in San Diego...and Trio has the closest thing I can find to quality mexican food...including proper salsas.
